The 2017 Federation Cup groups are out after I-League finale!

The 2016/17 I-League finished over the weekend and with it, the groups of the upcoming 2017 Federation Cup in Cuttack are out after the AIFF had earlier had drawn the seedings from one to eight.

The defending and record champions with 14 titles are Mohun Bagan who interestingly had one a one-sided final 5-0 against Aizawl FC in last years final.

Interestingly the AIFF has gone back to the round robin format with only the top eight of the I-League qualifying meaning that Minerva Punjab FC and Mumbai FC miss out. Group A would feature new I-League champions Aizawl FC (1st), East Bengal Club (3rd), Churchill Brothers (6th), and Chennai City FC (8th); while Group B has defending champions Mohun Bagan AC (2nd), Bengaluru FC (4th), Shillong Lajong FC (5th), and DSK Shivajians FC (7th).

The group stage will be played from May 7 to 12 in a round robin format with the two top teams progressing to the semifinals, which are slated for Sunday, May 14.

The final is scheduled to be played on May 18, but it could be rescheduled to Sunday, May 21 if one or both teams in Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC reach the final as the two sides are supposed to meet on May 17 in an AFC Cup – Group E encounter in Kolkata.
