2018 FIFA World Cup – QF: France defeat Uruguay 2-0 to move into semifinals!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Friday, July 6 afternoon with France defeating Uruguay 2-0 in a match of former champions at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

As expected it was an intense encounter from the start with limited to no chances at both ends. France went ahead in the 40th minute off an Antoine Griezmann free-kick which was headed in by Raphael Varane. The Equipe Tricolore went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Things didn’t change after the break and the deciding second goal came in the 61st minute when a Griezmann shot went through the hands of keeper Nestor Muslera in a massive goalkeeping error.

This was the killer of Uruguay attemping to come back into the game as they created no goalscoring opportunity thereafter as France won 2-0 and moved into the semifinals.
