At its meeting on Friday, March 10, the Executive Committee of the German Football Association (DFB) adopted the framework calendar for the youth competitions for the 2023/24 season. The U-19 Bundesliga starts the new season on the weekend of August 12/13, 2023. Just one week earlier, on August 5/6, the U-17 Bundesliga begins.
Hermann Winkler, DFB Vice President for Youth Football, says: “We are very pleased to return to the competition format with first and second half after two seasons with a single round. These are the best prerequisites for the players in the A and B Junior Bundesliga to get a lot of game practice. The now adopted framework calendar gives all participants a good orientation, the planning for the 2023/2024 season can be deepened. I wish all teams every success!”
After two seasons, which were played in a simple round in the U-19 and U-17 Junior Bundesliga due to the corona pandemic, there will be a return to the original system in the coming 2023/24 season: 14 teams per grouping will compete against each other on a total of 26 match days in the first and second rounds. Then follows the final round of the German Championship.
Due to the quarterfinals of the DFB Cup of the Juniors on December 17, 2023, the last Bundesliga match day of the Under-19s before the winter break will take place on December 10. The season will continue on February 4, 2024. The Under-17s will pause from December 17, due to an international match measure they will not start again until February 18, 2024.
The last matchday of the U-17 Bundesliga is scheduled for April 27, 2024, on May 12, 2024 the final of the German Championship of the Under-17s will take place. One day before, on May 11, 2024, the Under-19s will complete their last Bundesliga matchday and on June 2, 2024 their championship final. The final of the DFB Cup for juniors will be played on May 24, 2024 – and thus on the eve of the DFB Cup final for men.
