5 Players to watch out for in ISL 2020!

The IPL has just concluded. It was the most-watched edition in the history of the league. And now, sports fans from all over the country are turning their eyes towards the much-awaited Indian Super League. Within a short span of 6 years since it was launched, it has gained immense popularity in this traditionally cricket crazy nation. Not only has it garnered a following of football fans, but has also gained popularity amongst bettors. Online football betting on the ISL has become increasingly popular, with most reputed sites allowing bets on matches.

The upcoming edition promises to be full of action, with teams signing up many new players from across the globe, and current players looking to improve their performance. Let’s look at 5 players who are likely to have a great impact this year.

Steven Taylor (Odisha FC)

A well-known name for the football fans following the EPL, this 34-year-old will be playing for the Kalinga Warriors and will be leading them on the field.

Trained at the Newcastle United Youth Academy during his early years, he played at the club for more than 10 years as a defender. Apart from the Magpies, he has also played for Ipswich Town, Wycombe Wanderers, and Peterborough United, moving to the US in between for a brief stint with the Portland Timbers, where he played 9 games. For the previous two seasons from 2018 to 2020, he played for the Wellington Phoenix in Australia and also captained them in the last season.

Anthony Pilkington (SC East Bengal)

A winger from Ireland, he has made appearances in both the EPL, as well as the national football team for Ireland. Pilkington honed his skill during his young years at Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United, before turning a senior and joining Stockport County initially and then Huddersfield.

His big break came in 2011 when he was signed by Norwich City to play the Premier League. He scored 8 goals in his debut season. In his second season, he helped the Canaries beat the eventual champions, Manchester United by scoring the only goal of the match. In total, he played 75 Premier League matches scoring 14 goals. He has played 9 international matches for Ireland and scored a goal against the USA in a friendly match.

Roy Krishna (ATK Mohun Bagan)

Instrumental in helping ATK Mohun Bagan win their third title last year, Roy will be looking to repeat his heroics this year too. Last year, he scored 15 goals and assisted 6 more, and will definitely be looking to better the tally this year.

All the pressure to perform is unlikely to affect his ability to perform, as he has been used to playing on the big stage. He has played 155 matches for the Australian club of Wellington Phoenix, scoring 55 goals. He is also a regular for the Fiji national team and has scored 29 goals for his country.

Daniel Fox (SC East Bengal)

Robbie Fowler has recruited yet another veteran from the Premier League, to strengthen the defenses of SC East Bengal. Daniel has represented two different clubs in the EPL. In 2009-10, he represented Burnley FC, while in 2012-12, he played for Southampton FC. At the international level, he has represented England at the U21 level and played for the Scottish National team.

In total, he has played 465 games across various divisions and has 12 goals and 13 assists to his name.

Hugo Boumous (Mumbai City FC)

Having played two seasons of the ISL for FC Goa, Hugo has been picked up by Mumbai City FC for a two-year stint. This attacking midfielder from France has spent a great time playing for FC Goa, with 16 goals, and 17 assists in 43 matches.

This year, he has followed his mentor at FC Goa, Sergio Lobera to Mumbai. Having scored the maximum points in the League for 2019-20, he will be joining his FC Goa teammates Mourtada Fall, Mandar Rao Dessai, and Ahmed Jahouh at Mumbai.
