Jose Hevia’s Mohammedan Sporting Club will be looking at bouncing back when they face NEROCA FC in the ongoing I-League 2020/21 at Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Wednesday, February 3 with kick-off at 4pm.
Pressure is already mounting on the Black Panthers following three consecutive draws. After dropping six points in three matches Mohammedan Sporting, who are in sixth spot in league table with six points, find themselves in dire need of a win, and Hevia is well aware that they cannot afford anymore early season slip up if they are to challenge for the title.
However, Hevia knows that it will not get any easier against NEROCA, but he believes his side is more than capable of turning the corner.
“NEROCA will be very difficult opponents, they play a possession game and they hold the ball well. The key to the match will be the midfield, we need to win the ball in those areas. We talked with the boys about the importance of this game. This is a match where we need to show character,” Hevia said.
Hevia is expected to make a few changes to his side to face NEROCA. Hevia, however, is unlikely to make wholesale changes for a number of reasons — mostly because he believes in continuity. He will also not want to be seen to be panicking. He is more likely to make a few changes here and there to find the right formula for success.
The Spaniard has been a master at organizing his team in a tight formation but admitted that he is trying to find “the right mix” in his team going forward into the campaign. The gaffer said his team still has “plenty of scope for improvement” before they embark on a tough phase.
Meanwhile, he insisted that they have been working on improving their game, saying, “We have addressed the issue of consistency in our play. The lads looked sharp in training and the mood in the camp is good.”
