Adria Pedrosa joins Sevilla FC on five year deal!

Sevilla FC and Adrià Pedrosa have reached an agreement for the Catalan player to become the club’s second signing, after centre-back Federico Gattoni, for the 2023/24 season. Pedrosa, who arrives on a free transfer after his contract with RCD Espanyol expired, signs on a five-year deal until 30 June 2028.

Barcelona-born Adrià Giner Pedrosa (May 13, 1998) served RCD Espanyol for nine years. Initially from the youth ranks of UE Castelldefels and EF Gavà, at the age of 16 he joined the Pericos’ youth academy to join their second youth team. Two years later, at the end of the 2016/17 season, he made his debut with the reserve team in the third tier, with whom he played in the last five games.

He established himself with Espanyol B the following season and made 30 appearances in the fourth tier, which brought him to the attention of first-team coach Rubi, who called him up for the first time in MD6 of the 2018/19 season. He was then handed his first-team debut, playing the full 90 minutes in MD16 at home to Real Betis. In April 2019, he also scored his first goal in the top flight, opening the scoring in the 2-1 win against Deportivo Alavés in MD32.

The 2018/19 season, the one in which he made the leap to the first team, ended with 12 appearances and one goal in LaLiga, four in the Copa del Rey, whilst also scoring twice in eleven appearances for Espanyol B in the third tier.

The following season got underway with David Gallego, reserve team coach, being promoted to first-team coach, which facilitated Pedrosa’s definitive leap to the first team. In fact, he started playing in the early UEL qualifying rounds. His first season as a full-time first-teamer ended with 20 LaLiga appearances and a goal, two goals and two assists in the UEFA Europa League, and a further three outings in the Copa del Rey. However, the Catalans were relegated to the Second Division.

Espanyol would bounce back at the first attempt, with Pedrosa contributing a goal and five assists in 32 matches. He continued to be first-choice left back after their return to the top flight, making 31 LaLiga appearances in the 2021/22 season and adding a goal and an assist, whilst scoring once and assisting another in his two Copa del Rey matches.

Last season, the final year of his contract, saw the left-back injured for a lengthy spell. He returned in time for the final stretch, featuring in seven matches, but his return could not help Espanyol avoid relegation. For the first team, he clocked up seven goals and thirteen assists in 120 appearances.

On the international stage, Pedrosa made nine appearances for Spain U-21 between October 2019 and May 2021. He featured in the UEFA EURO U21 in 2021, where Spain were knocked out in the semifinals.
