AFC Asian Cup 2023 takes centre stage at 3rd AFC National Coaches Conference 2024!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s unwavering dedication to ensure the continuous success of Asian teams on the world stage reached yet another milestone when the 3rd AFC National Coaches Conference kicked off on Tuesday in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

Under the theme of “AFC Asian Cup 2023™- The National Coaches’ Perspective”, the three-day conference aims to provide national team coaches as well as other members of the technical staff of the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs) with the opportunity to reflect on the learnings from the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™.
Setting the tone for the upcoming days, the conference commenced with the national team coaches and backroom staff from across the Continent paying tribute to Qatar for their sensational back-to-back AFC Asian Cup™ triumphs.

With eminent coaches such as Australia’s Graham Arnold and Japan’s Hajime Moriyasu in attendance, the conference will serve as an excellent opportunity for the Continent’s best coaches to exchange information and share ideas, and provide the best resources for teams in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will feature 48 teams for the first time, with eight and a half slots up for grabs for Asian sides.

Welcoming the participants to the conference, AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh said: “In recent years, Asian football has experienced significant growth. Following the record performances at the FIFA World Cup in 2022, Asian teams continued to put on some impressive displays at the AFC Asian Cup™ earlier this year.

“From debutants Tajikistan’s remarkable Quarter-final finish to Jordan’s maiden appearance in the Final, several of our teams rewrote history, enriching the legacy of the AFC Asian Cup™ in the process.”

“Our pursuit towards excellence is an ongoing process. As we all know, the AFC remains committed in its Vision to ensure the success of our national teams on the biggest stages in world football.

“This conference, for national coaches and their technical directors will examine lessons from the AFC Asian Cup™ and look ahead to the expanded FIFA World Cup in 2026.”

Moreover, key topics such as the leadership role of the national coach will also be presented, with FIFA Football Performance Analyst Harry Lowe providing additional information from Europe and the rest of the world.
