AFC Club Licensing Online Seminar 2022 highlights new developments!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment to further raise the standards of professionalism in club football was underlined at the AFC Club Licensing Online Seminar 2022 on Thursday, February 23.

Club Licensing Managers across Asia attended the virtual seminar that covered the latest developments and key changes in the AFC Club Licensing Regulations that has been extended to futsal and women’s football.

The seminar started with Head of Competitions Strategy Department Pavel Luzanov welcoming participants on behalf of the AFC Deputy General Secretary Competitions & Football Shin Man Gil before a comprehensive report of the 2021 club licensing cycle progress was presented.

As Asian football enters a new era with the introduction of the AFC Women’s Club Licensing criteria, participants were presented with the progress report which detailed several potential issues as well as action plans to alleviate any challenges.

Additionally, the seminar also shared the roadmap on the implementation of the Futsal Club Licensing criteria, listing key milestone leading up to the pilot project implementation for all Member Associations (MAs) participating in the 2024 AFC Futsal Club Championship.

With the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup set for enhancements in the coming years, attendees were briefed on the impact on club licensing implementation.

A summary of legal cases was also shared during the seminar, covering the AFC’s recommendations to the AFC Entry Control Body (ECB) to withdraw three licenses granted by the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran to participate in the 2022 AFC Champions League.
