AFC Development Committee signals significant leap forward for MAs and RAs!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment towards the long-term success of its Member Associations (MAs) and Regional Associations (RAs) continued to gain strong momentum with the AFC Development Committee underscoring its confidence in the newly introduced programmes at raising the game at all levels across the Continent at its third meeting held virtually yesterday.

The Committee was resolute in the role of the AFC Enhance Member Association Programme and AFC Enhance Regional Association Programme, which were recently ratified by the AFC Executive Committee, to pave the way for the Asian football family to usher in a new era of development.

With the regulations for both programmes falling under the purview of the Development Committee, Deputy Chairperson Kanya Keomany, who opened the meeting before Chairperson Salem Said Salem Al Wahaibi led the proceedings, said: “Despite the great challenges, the AFC continues to do everything in its power to assist its MAs to weather this great storm.

“Looking ahead, it is essential that we continue to evolve to assist our MAs and RAs to adapt and to unlock their undeniable potential.”

The AFC Enhance Programme for both the MAs and RAs is based on a four-year cycle, which will enable AFC MAs and RAs to better utilise the grants for their long-term management and development needs. The Development Committee will be responsible for the management and monitoring of these funds and projects.

Members of the Committee were also briefed on the recently launched AFC Academic Centre of Excellence, which introduced the landmark AFC Football Management Certificate and the AFC Football Management Diploma courses in October and November 2021 – both aimed at strengthening the professional landscape of Asian football through the development of the Continent’s future leaders.

The AFC ACE seeks to provide a holistic platform driven to equip participants with the expertise and skill sets required in today’s dynamic world of football business.

The Committee was also given an in-depth report on the continued impact of the AFC’s development activities and programmes since its last meeting, most notably the progress of the AFC President’s Infrastructure Initiative, the AFC President’s Technical Staff Initiative, the AFC President’s Development Initiative and the AFC Regional Association Fund 2021.
