AFC Dream Asia Foundation Board of Trustees keen to leverage on power of Asian football!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Foundation’s efforts to deliver impactful social development programmes on the Continent was further strengthened at the first Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting yesterday in Doha, Qatar.

Along with Chairperson HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal, the four-member board comprises the Hong Kong Football Association Ltd President Timothy Fok Tsun Ting, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) President Major General Khiev Sameth, and Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) President and AFC Social Responsibility Committee Chairperson Zaw Zaw.

Chairperson HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal said: “The AFC Dream Asia Foundation was established with the aim of driving the AFC’s ambitions to maximise the powerful force of the beautiful game. And as a result ultimately strengthen, empower and uplift our most vulnerable communities across Asia.

“Like in football, achieving our goal is only possible by playing as a team and working together. And as we look to a brighter future for all, I want to underline our collective commitment to work as a cohesive team across all levels of the AFC and beyond to further unlock the full potential of football throughout Asia.

Among several matters discussed at the meeting, the BoT recommended certain procedural amendments such as the approval process for fund disbursals to ensure the highest levels of transparency and accountability.

The Trustees were also updated on the additional sources of funding from the AFC Asian Cup™, AFC Women’s Asian Cup™, and the AFC Cup™, further to the 5% of the prize money that is received from the champion and runner-up of the AFC Champions League™.

With the implementation of projects and duties such as liaising with relevant external parties being the responsibilities of the AFC Administration, the Board recommended the appointment of Vahid Kardany, the AFC Deputy General Secretary, Member Associations, as the Foundation’s Secretary.

Additionally, the Board received updates on all activities of the AFC’s social responsibility efforts, such as the appointment of Child Safeguarding Officers in the AFC’s Member Associations and Regional Associations, the development of an online Child Safeguarding Education programme, and the AFC Social Responsibility Strategic Plan, which was launched in October 2022 to help manage and administer social responsibility initiatives and programmes.

Furthermore, the BoT was also informed of the AFC’s induction as a member of the United Nations: Football For The Goals initiative in October 2022, a collaborative effort with stakeholders in the global football ecosystem that aims to harness football’s powerful and influential reach to create meaningful change in society.
