Nine Member Associations (MAs) gained valuable insights during the recent Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Football Emergency and Anti-Doping Regional Course (West), which took place from May 27 to 30.
Held in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) in the capital city of Riyadh, the event focused on empowering the participants with the latest developments in sports medicine as well as providing a platform for medical professionals to come together to exchange ideas and opinions.
Attended by 34 medical professionals from the MAs of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, the latest edition of the course underlines the AFC’s unwavering commitment towards maximising the potential of its members and Regional Associations to remain as a leading Confederation.
The four-day course comprised two segments, with the theoretical portion featuring informative lectures on the latest breakthroughs in emergency sports medicine, while the practical sessions provided hands-on experience in managing emergency cases both on and off the pitch. Additionally, participants received expert insight into various anti-doping issues, including prevention and detection strategies.
“The AFC strongly believes that education plays a key role in the development of football in Asia, and this has facilitated the implementation of courses such as these, which allows us, as medical professionals to convene and share our thoughts and latest scientific learnings and stay updated with the changing times and technological advancements,” said AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr. Gurcharan Singh.
Meanwhile, Majed Al Sahib, SAFF Deputy General Secretary in charge of Strategic Affairs and International Relations, remarked: “It is very important that we continue hosting such conferences and on behalf of the SAFF, we are keen to see more collaborations in the future.”
