AFC Futsal Instructors inspired to set new benchmarks across the Continent!

In a bid to harness the ever-growing popularity of futsal, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) concluded the AFC Futsal Train the Trainers Coaching Instructors Selection Course 2023 on Saturday in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

The six-day long programme saw instructors and coaches from 19 Member Associations (MAs) undergo extensive physical training while also partaking in informative classroom sessions, during the course of which, they received updates on the AFC’s latest initiatives in Futsal.

With the identification of future instructors for elite, zonal, and local levels being a primary goal of the programme, some of the major highlights of the course included discussions on ways to maximise the potential of players through the enhancement of training sessions, and understanding their own duties and responsibilities as Instructors. It was also emphasised that they are expected to work on an updated approach in communication, namely “tutoring”.

On the first two days of the course, the focus was mostly on becoming acquainted with the purpose of the AFC’s Levels 1, 2 and 3 courses, and the latest trends and best practices of futsal through the years.

The following days saw the participants take part in knowledge sharing exercises under the guidance of some of the most renowned experts in Asia, whereas the (practical) sessions were for the participants to optimise their technical and tactical ability to become good instructors.

The remaining days of the course mainly involved solution-oriented group activities such as crises management and devising defensive strategies. A detailed review of the preceding days was also organised which helped the participants reflect on their learnings.

“I would like to thank the AFC and my FA for giving me this precious opportunity to participate in this course which, I am sure will play a significant role in the development of futsal in Asia. With participants from 19 MAs exchanging their knowledge, culture and experience, I am grateful to be part of the Asian futsal family and now I am even more motivated and cannot help but look forward to more things to come,” said Abdulraouf Omar Mohamed Ahmed from the United Arab Emirates.

Echoing his sentiments, Vietnam’s Huynh Tan Quoc said: “I came here thinking responsibility was mostly to represent my Federation. However, as the course went on, I realized that the purpose was more about learning deeply from one another. I am very grateful now to have been able to take part in the course and feel that I am enriched.”
