AFC President concludes meeting with Football Association of Singapore!

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) met with Bernard Tan, the Acting President of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), who was accompanied by FAS Council Member Goh Tat Chuan, and General Secretary Yazeen Buhari, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday.

Shaikh Salman extended his condolences on the sudden demise of the late FAS President, Lim Kia Tong, who also served as the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee (DEC) Chairperson since March 2011 until the time of his passing.

The AFC President lauded the late President Lim’s dedication towards establishing good governance not just in Singapore but also in Asia and the world.

The two heads went on to discuss several ongoing projects of the FAS, specifically in the areas of youth development and coach education.

The AFC President commended the FAS on the development initiatives and the progress of its clubs, most notably the performance of 2021 Singapore Premier League winners Lion City Sailors who became the first Singapore side to feature in the AFC Champions League earlier this year.

The year 2022 also marked significant milestones in women’s football in Singapore with the FAS hosting the country’s first ever Women’s Football Conference which was celebrated during the annual AFC Women’s Football Day and International Women’s Day.

Acting President Tan and the FAS delegation thanked the AFC President for the support that the FAS has received from the AFC in enhancing the landscape of football in the country while expressing their interest to host AFC events both on and off the pitch.
