AFC President lauds Malaysian football development!

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa today visited the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) headquarters WISMA FAM where he met with the FAM President Datuk Haji Hamidin Bin Haji Mohd Amin and the FAM Executive Committee.

Shaikh Salman held wide-ranging discussions on the progress of Malaysian football with Datuk Hamidin and the FAM leadership with the focal points being the recent impressive performances of the Malaysian national team Harimau Malaya and club sides JDT and Kuala Lumpur City FC, and the efforts undertaken by the governing body of Malaysian football.

Addressing the FAM Executive Committee and FAM staff members, Shaikh Salman said: “Under the able leadership of Datuk Hamidin, the FAM has been investing in capacity building and the results have been quite impressive, clearly manifesting the AFC’s vision of developing the sport in its Member Associations.

“The Malaysian national team will compete in the AFC Asia Cup 2023™ after a long gap and this is welcome news for all football-loving Malaysians, who can also cheer the results of JDT after they reached the AFC Champions League 2022™ Round of 16, and of course Kuala Lumpur City FC, who reached the AFC Cup™ Final in 2022.”

The AFC President also stressed the close collaboration between the AFC and the FAM.

“The FAM are one of our leading Member Associations and we appreciate our close engagement, which sees FAM availing of the many benefits provided by the AFC through the AFC’s development funding and programmes,” added Shaikh Salman.

Datuk Hamidin thanked the AFC President for the AFC’s unstinted support while outlining the FAM’s future plans for further developing the sport across the country through a range of projects.
