The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa held a meeting with the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President Jaswar Umar today ahead of the AFC Annual Awards Doha 2022.

Shaikh Salman extended his congratulations to President Umar, who was re-elected as the President of the FFSL in September this year and appreciated the commitment of the Member Association (MA) in ensuring the successful resumption of football in the country.

The AFC President said: “It has been heartening to see how despite facing several challenges, the FFSL has always come out stronger. We are eager to see how the recent initiatives of improving the FFSL governance take shape in the future.”

Shaikh Salman also outlined his optimism for the full resumption of all development activities, whilst reiterating his hope for the country to host the AFC’s competitions in the coming years.

“The efforts of the FFSL are already seeing good results and I hope that Sri Lanka will be ready to stage the AFC’s competitions in the future,” he added.

“The AFC exists to provide dedicated service to its members, and it is by helping them realise their maximum potential that we can truly excel as a model Confederation.”

President Umar, who was accompanied by FFSL Vice Presidents Ranjith Rodrigo and Dr. V. Manil Fernando, reinforced his commitment towards ensuring the continued development of the game in Sri Lanka and playing an active role in the region as well as the Continent.
