AFC & Qatar 2023 LOC reiterate ambitions to stage grandest Continental spectacle!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) successfully concluded a two-day visit by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 on Thursday, as preparations continue apace for the Continental showpiece.

Headed by CEO Jassim Abdulaziz Al Jassim, the six-member LOC delegation arrived in Malaysia’s capital city on Wednesday morning and proceeded to meet their AFC counterparts, led by AFC Deputy General Secretary – Competitions and Football, Shin Man Gil, in the afternoon.

The wide-ranging agenda of meetings kicked off with an overview report of the progress to date since preparations for Asia’s flagship national team competition began last November, which was followed by various meetings between key representatives from the relevant functional and operational areas of both sides.

These areas included matters pertaining to project management, competition operations, safety and security, competition commercial operations, media and broadcast operations, venue operations, marketing, communications, ticketing, football technology and more.

Further engagement continued Thursday morning with another round of meetings, before the LOC delegation attended the official draw ceremony of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.

Both AFC DGS Shin and LOC CEO Jassim hailed the fruitful visit as well as the smooth collaboration between the AFC and LOC, while also expressing confidence that preparations remain on track to ensure that the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ will be the grandest Asian spectacle in tournament history.

Asia’s top 24 teams will do battle at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 in Doha between January 12 to February 10, 2024, where defending champions Qatar take on Lebanon in the opening match at 7.30pm, Qatar time.
