AFC Referee Instructors & Assessors Seminars convene!

Asia’s officials have gathered for the AFC Referee Instructors & Assessors Seminars which began on Monday, February 7 in the Malaysian capital.

A total of 78 Instructors and Assessors are part of the four-day seminars which are divided into two-parts: The Instructors on Feb 5 followed by the Assessors from February 6-8, 2018.

AFC Director of Referees Shamsul Maidin, who opened the seminar on behalf of AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John, said: “The AFC has set out its Vision and Mission to ensure that our officials, players and teams excel on the biggest stages across the world. Our collective mandate is to see more Asian referees officiate more high profile matches.”

“As assessors, all of you play an important role in ensuring our match officials not only deal with the mounting pressures of modern day refereeing, but rise above the occasion.”

“The world’s attention will be on our referees during the FIFA World Cup in Russia and Asia’s premier national team competition – the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 is just 11 months away. It is imperative therefore that you complement your expertise with the latest developments of the rules and best practices.”

AFC experts are joined by guest instructors David Elleray, the Technical Director of International Football Association Board, and Ray Olivier, former Head of Professional Referee Development at the Professional Game Match Officials Limited.

The main objective of the event is to enhance the quality of the AFC referee instructors and assessors and to ensure consistency in refereeing education and evaluation process.

The seminars are also aimed at recruiting new AFC referee assessors. Four new assessors from Bahrain, China, Iran and Vietnam are attending.

The seminars consist of theory and practical applications, where the referee instructors and assessors will go through various sessions of Assessment Guidelines, AFC Administration System (AFCAS), Consistency in Marking and Development and competition matters.
