AFC team visits Indonesia’s PSSI, offers condolences!

An Asian Football Confederation (AFC) delegation led by the AFC Deputy General Secretary Shin Man Gill and Deputy Chairperson of the AFC Safety and Security Task Force Datuk Dell Akbar Khan met with the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) President Police Commissioner General Dr H. Mochamad Iriawan on Wednesday and expressed their condolences and support in the wake of the Kanjuruhan stadium tragedy earlier this month.

Following the assurance of support provided by the AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa to the PSSI, the AFC delegation also met with several key stakeholders of the PSSI and the Indonesian Government and were briefed on the latest developments.

The AFC President and the world football family had conveyed their deep sorrow and regret at the tragic loss of lives during a Liga 1 match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang city, on October 1, 2022.

The PSSI were informed by the visiting AFC team that the AFC stands ready to assist with its resources in any way necessary to prevent such incidents in the future in the football-loving country.

The PSSI President expressed his sincere gratitude to the AFC delegation for the insightful assistance and continuous guidance, while resolving to engage closely with the governing body of Asian football to put in place concrete steps to ensure the safety and security of all Indonesian football fans and stakeholders.
