AFC Technical Study Group at Asian Cup 2023!

As the thrilling action unfolds at the world-class venues across the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, a team of experts have been following every move of the 24 participating teams from their perch in the stands.

Together, they form the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Technical Study Group (TSG) – an experienced group of technical analysts who will run the rule over all 51 matches of the 18th edition of Asia’s crown jewel.
The TSG’s contributions to the showpiece tournament will come in the form of the AFC Asian Cup Technical Report and post-match summary reports, while they are also responsible for selecting the winners of the competition’s awards.

The Technical Report is produced through factual observation of matches, where the TSG will identify the latest technical and tactical trends from the pinnacle of Asian international football that will help in the further development of activities on the training ground, individual player development and quality of team play.

It will also serve as a historical record of the competition as well as a valuable resource for coaches, while it is also a publication that has traditionally been of interest to officials, media and fans.

AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, who is heading the TSG in Qatar, said: “The AFC Asian Cup™ is where the very best teams and players on the continent showcase their abilities and as such, the tournament provides an excellent opportunity to identify trends and tactics which can have an impact on the future development of the game across Asia.”
