AFC Women’s Football Day spreads joy to girls across Asia!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), together with 39 Member Associations (MAs), continued to reach more girls through fun-filled activities that were organised in conjunction with the AFC Women’s Football Day.

The festivities include workshops, friendly matches and small-sided games which marked the safe return of football while promoting activities for girls to discover the joy of playing and being involved in the beautiful game.

Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA)

A total of 270 participants joined the AFC Women’s Football Day as the CTFA continued to encourage and support women’s participation in football.

The activities organised include age groups tournaments as well as basic football training such as body rhythm, eye and hand coordination, ball control, dribbling and shooting.

Those involved in the activities comprised women football coaches in schools and training centres.

Guam Football Association (GFA)

The AFC Women’s Football Day in Guam marked the return of football after play was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The GFA aptly celebrated the occasion by organising ‘Return to Play’ exhibition matches for girls from different age groups. A total of 369 girls joined the fun-filled initiatives.

Mothers were also encouraged to join their children in the activities organised for the U6 age group.

Iraqi Football Association (IFA)

The IFA welcomed 100 girls to their AFC Women’s Football Day where they organised various programmes at the Al-Shaab Stadium.

Some of the activities during the festival included a football workshop and training groups that helped young girls learn the basics of football.

The participants also had the opportunity to take part in friendly matches and small-sided games to truly experience the joy of football.

Jordan Football Association (JFA)

Over 200 participants including national team players and coaches joined the AFC Women’s Football Day at the Al Hussein Youth City.

Players were divided into 12 groups and took turns to join fun games organised in different stations while 16 other teams played in small-sided matches.

The festival was even more joyous with 200 people watching from the stands to show their support for women’s football in Jordan.

Lebanese Football Association (LFA)

Girls and parents from different cities in Lebanon joined the AFC Women’s Football Day festival that was organised during the school holidays.

A total of 60 girls participated in small-sided games and technical workshops in addition to making new friends and learning about the sport.

Additionally, the LFA hosted a 7v7 Girls Football tournament in three provinces which saw 12 teams participate in the round robin format.

Macau Football Association (AFM)

Over 80 girls, with 65 participants under the age of 12, joined the AFC Women’s Football Day at the Dom Bosco Sports Center.

They took part in fun exercises and small-sided games that was divided into four different age-groups.

Director of Macau Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun and Vice President of AFM Chong Coc Veng attended the opening ceremony to officiate the event.

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)

Former Nepal women’s national player Manmaya Limbu was honoured during the AFC Women’s Football Day celebrations for her contribution to the sport in Nepal.

Approximately 200 participants, including former national team players joined the event.

Additionally, a grassroots camp was organised for the Chahari Sikshya Sadan students who took part in football programmes.

Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (NMIFA)

The NMIFA rebranded their Women’s Football League to integrate the Northern Mariana Islands culture and promote the rapid growth of women’s football in the country.

Additionally, the involvement and contribution of women in the community were recognised during the ceremony that was organised in conjunction with the AFC Women’s Football Day.

In total, 280 people attended the event, including 260 women footballers and staff members.

Palestine Football Association (PFA)

The PFA held a women’s Futsal Championship in conjunction with the AFC Women’s Football Day to discover new futsal talents.

A total of eight teams from the North, South and Centre provinces of Palestine signed-up to play in the championship in Ramallah.

The teams were divided into two groups who played in a round-robin format. Diyar and Al-Bireh Youth emerged victorious from their groups respectively.

Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL)

The FFSL promoted football in the remote town of Maligapitiya in Kurunegala district and received overwhelming support from 300 young girls.

Among some of the initiatives organised include technical workshops, small-sided games and football related activities to teach participants the fundamentals of the sport.

Additionally, teachers and coaches from the Kurunegala district also joined the activities to learn more about football.

Federacao Futebol De Timor-Leste (FFTL)

Over 300 women players of all ages joined the AFC Women’s Football Day celebrations at the Campo Democracia Training Field in Dili.

Various activities were held including a friendly competition between FFTL’s senior national team that was watched by participants.

The celebration was also an opportunity for FFTL to encourage more young girls to play the sport.
