The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa met with the United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAE FA) President Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and reinforced the enduring ties between the two organisations during his visit to the Emirates on Thursday, November 2.

The AFC President congratulated the UAE FA President on his successful election to the high-level position in September and outlined his confidence for a continued era of growth and progress under his expertise and leadership.

During the meeting, the two Presidents also discussed possible areas to further strengthen the spirit of cooperation between the AFC and UAE FA and underlined the Confederation’s steadfast commitment to support its Member Associations.

Shaikh Salman also paid a glowing tribute to the United Arab Emirates’ position as a global sporting destination, with the UAE FA poised to host the 12th edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Dubai in February 2024.

The AFC President said: “Asia continues to be the focal point of world football and we must thank the UAE FA for sharing our belief in staging world-class competitions for our players and teams to shine.

“The United Arab Emirates has established itself as one of the best sporting destinations in the world of sport and we have every faith that the UAE FA will host a truly memorable FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in February next year.”

At the same time, Shaikh Salman was also pleased to note the UAE FA’s plans to strengthen the promotion of the women’s game, with the implementation of a strategic plan aimed at realising its aspirations to compete at the global level.

“The AFC has continued to invest in women’s football, and the launch of the AFC Women’s Champions League next year will serve as a gamechanger, so we are delighted to see our MAs, including the UAE FA, sharing our collective ambitions in this key area of development.
