AFC’s Shaikh Salman receives Qatar bid to host 2027 AFC Asian Cup!

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, today received Qatar’s Bid Book as part of the next phase of their bid to host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

Shaikh Salman received the Bid Book from Qatar Football Association President Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifah Al Thani, during the opening ceremony of the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, which was also attended by several other top Asian sports officials.

The Qatar FA, along with the Saudi Arabia, Islamic Republic of Iran, India, and Uzbekistan, are hoping to win the rights to host the AFC Asian Cup, the crown jewel of National Team competitions, in 2027.

Shaikh Salman said, “The growing stature of the AFC Asian Cup has created great interest to host the event and the Bid Books from the potential hosts reflect the hard work that has gone into the submissions and in turn demonstrates the importance of the tournament.”

“We have witnessed the growth of the AFC Asian Cup, which has broken all records in the last two editions, in Australia in 2015 and last year in the United Arab Emirates, in terms of spectators, TV viewership and digital channels engagement. We are confident that the next edition – the AFC Asian Cup China 2023™ – will be an even greater success and set the benchmark for the 2027 tournament.”

Shaikh Salman said that he is confident that the AFC will deliver the highest level of integrity in the bidding process for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and wished the best of luck to all the Member Associations in the rest of their bidding campaigns.
