AIFF chief Praful Patel set to meet Kolkata giants East Bengal & Mohun Bagan!

A postponed meeting between the All India Football Federation president Praful Patel with the Kolkata giants East Bengal Club and Mohun Bagan AC is set to now happen on Saturday, May 6 in Mumbai.

The main topic of discussion between the two sides is how the interests of the Kolkata clubs are taken care off in a new merged Indian Super League which according to current plans would include the eight ISL franchises besides East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC.

Earlier the Football Sports Development Ltd, a joint venture between IMG-Reliance and Star Sports, who organise and manage the Indian Super League had send its proposal offer to the Kolkata giants to go through and consider ahead of joining the merger top tier of Indian football.

Both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan had a thorough read through the proposal but found a number of points within the franchise contract not to their liking.

The two clubs joined hands and meet with the Indian Football Association (West Bengal), whose president Subrata Dutta is also the AIFF’s senior vice-president. After a few meetings it was decided that a meeting would be organised at the beginning of May with the AIFF president Praful Patel to see how the pending issues like franchise fee, home city, rights and ownership of name, logo, and more could be discussed and solved.

The Kolkata giants hope to have the AIFF top brass on their side as they feel that they bring a lot of value to the expanded ISL, but for that to happen certain exceptions need to be made in their favour.

It will be interesting to see if the AIFF takes a stand or position on the matter as a meeting with new I-League champions Aizawl FC is set to happen next week as protest is growing in the Northeast about their possible inclusion in the new top tier of Indian football.
