The All India Football Federation Emergency Committee meeting was called in compliance with the order passed by the Delhi High Court on Monday, November 28, 2016, wherein the court directed the AIFF to consider the representation of Churchill Brothers SC dated Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
The members of the committee discussed the directives of the Delhi High Court dated November 28, 2016, in details. It was observed by the committee that the Delhi High Court has directed AIFF to take into account the track records and history of Churchill Brothers while considering their representation.
In compliance with the specific direction of the Delhi High Court and also Churchill Brothers SC’s commitment to fulfilling the licensing criteria as stipulated in the order dated November 28, 2016, the Committee unanimously decided to allow them to participate in the season 2016-17 I-League.
This means the former champions Churchill Brothers SC would be representing Goa in the upcoming I-League after their long time rivals Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa all decided to not play in the I-League.
