AIPS Asia journalists to provide coverage of AFC Women’s Asian Cup!

Cooperation between the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and AIPS Asia was strengthened on Wednesday, April 4 as AIPS Asia journalists started their duties at the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Jordan.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations, the AFC invited AIPS Asia members to Amman, Jordan, to cover Asia’s flagship women’s football tournament for their media organisations in their home countries.

Prior to the start of the competition on Friday, AIPS Asia organised a workshop for the participants who are all female and come from China, Iran, Japan, South Korea and Lebanon.

The aim of the event was to provide background about the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and discuss sport journalists’ work in general. The workshop was hosted by the Local Organising Committee of the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Jordan.

Representing host country Jordan, the opening of the workshop was attended by President of Jordan Sports Information Federation Amjad Al Majali and Dr Sari Hamdan, Vice President of Jordan Olympic Committee. Media Manager of the LOC Hiba Sabbagh opened the event, welcoming the participants and highlighting the importance of hosting the competition.

General Secretary of AIPS Asia Amjad Aziz Malik said, “I would like to thank the AFC President and the General Secretary for cooperation and working hand in hand to further football in Asia.”

“This tournament is an excellent opportunity for journalists to gain international experience. AIPS Asia supports young sport journalists across the Continent, male and female, through specific workshops, programmes and events, and we are happy to work with the AFC to extend this support.”

Dr Sari Hamdan, Vice President of Jordan Olympic Committee, commented, “The Jordan Olympic Committee is proud to have important international events such as the AFC Women’s Asian Cup hosted in Jordan. I would like to thank the AFC for the honour of hosting the first-ever AFC Women’s Asian Cup in West Asia.”

The AIPS Asia journalists will stay in Amman for the whole tournament and will use the opportunity to report about the competition and women’s football in Asia, in West Asia and in Jordan.
