Aizawl FC ensure first league spot in MPL-8 league stage!

Aizawl FC earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Chhinga Veng FC in the rearranged round 14 match on Monday, November 18 evening at the AR Lammual.

The defending champions had their final league fixture rescheduled due to their upcoming I-League clash with Mohun Bagan on November 30.

A relatively quiet first half saw few clear chances created by both teams with William Lalnunfela of Aizawl FC coming in the first period which was blocked by Chhinga Veng defender C. Muana. Current top scorer M.C. Malsawmzuala also struck the post for Chhinga Veng FC.

It was Aizawl FC who struck in the second half as captain Alfred Kemah Jaryan was able to shrug off two defenders in the Chhinga Veng FC area to blast into the top corner on the 69th minute.

Chhinga Veng FC thought they had scored an equaliser from K.C. Larchhuakmawia minutes later only for the goal to be ruled offside.

Aizawl FC now have 30 points from 13 games with an eight point lead over Mizoram Police which will ensure them of top spot in the league.

Meanwhile Chhinga Veng FC will need a win against Electric Veng FC in their final league fixture in round 13 this Thursday to ensure their semifinal place in MPL-8.
