Defending champions Aizawl FC have announced the signing of Afghanistan defender Masih Saighani ahead of the 2017/18 I-League.

The 31 year old Kabul-born Masih Saighani fled the war in his country as youngster with his family to Germany and there started to play football.

He started his career at SG Niederweimar and then went to VfB Marburg, where he also made his debut as a senior pro. He then went on to play for SC Waldgirmes (thrice), Bonner SC, VfB Marburg, Eintracht Wetzlar, Sportfreunde Siegen, TSV Steinbach, TSV Eintracht Stadtallendorf, FC Ederbergland and most recently Türk Gücü Friedberg.

Overall Masih Saighani has played across the lower tiers of German football mainly between the fifth and sixth divisions, but since 2015 has made numerous appearances for the Afghanistan national team.

Now he moves to South Asia on his first-ever professional contract with the Indian champions Aizawl FC and he will have to show if he can hold that level which is required in Indian football coming from amateur German club football.
