Are Mohun Bagan & East Bengal preparing their ISL switch?

On the day, the follow-up FIFA letter to the AIFF and clubs was made public, it also emerged that the Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal Club are speaking to Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) again about making a potential switch from I-League to the Indian Super League.

Since the departure of United Breweries brand McDowell’s as partners and sponsors, Mohun Bagan have been struggling without a title sponsors. Meanwhile East Bengal were able to hang on to Kingfisher, also of United Breweries, a little longer and found last summer a new partner-cum-sponsor in Quess Corps but that relationship has gone sour meaning that their association will end last by the end of the season.

This means that both Kolkata giants for all their spending on costly squads, which is by far the highest in the I-League, will be fighting to put a strong team together next term, meaning the 2020/21 season.

Now they are said to have reached out to Football Sports Development Limited to see if and when they could potentially switch from the I-League to the Indian Super League.

It isn’t clear when Mohun Bagan and East Bengal reached out, but it seems that the I-League unity to fight the AIFF and Football Sports Development Limited seems as something of the past with FIFA also showing their support to the AIFF.
