Bayern Munich look forward to getting their fifth star!

2020/21 German champions! For the ninth time in a row, for the 30th time since the founding of the Bundesliga in 1963 and for the 31st time overall, FC Bayern Munich have won the league – and that will make the Munich team shine even brighter in the future. From next season onwards, a fifth star will adorn FC Bayern’s chest.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “The fifth star on our home jerseys is the reward for 30 league titles since the founding of the Bundesliga in 1963. This has been earned by many generations of players and is proof of FC Bayern’s decades of consistency at the highest level – FC Bayern fans can be proud of that.”

The German Football League’s (DFL) matchwear guidelines state that first and second division teams receive stars for winning league titles since the founding of the Bundesliga in 1963: one for three titles, two for five title wins, three for ten titles, four for 20 league wins, and five for 30 titles. FC Bayern is now the first club to have reached this mark. The 1932 championship title is not counted by the DFL because it was won before the Bundesliga was founded. This means that in the 2021/22 season, FCB will officially be allowed to wear the long-awaited fifth star.

In mid-July, FC Bayern will present its new home jersey and Bayern partner adidas is currently working flat out to ensure that the fifth star will be integrated into it for the first time ever. Before then, there will be no other five-starred merchandising items. The anticipation is already enormous!
