Bengaluru FC & ATK Mohun Bagan share spoils in PL NextGen Cup!

Bengaluru FC played out a 0-0 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan in their third and final Group A fixture of the PL NextGen Cup at the Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday. A mix of sturdy defending and lackluster finishing saw the two teams shake hands and share the points at the end of a game that had everything but goals.

Ahead of the game, Bengaluru FC B head coach Kaizad Ambapardiwala made four changes to the side that faced West Ham United as Rajanbir Singh, Amay Morajkar, Fredy Chawngthansanga and Shreyas Ketkar took the field.

ATK Mohun Bagan started strong, forcing Sharon Padattil into plenty of saves early on in the game. The Blue Colts eventually got themselves into the game and had their first big chance in the 16th minute, when Thoi’s attempt to head a cross from Amay fell straight into the hands of ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Arsh Shaikh.

Josep Gibert’s side had a man sent off in the 23rd minute, when Lalrinliana Hnamte received his marching orders. Having dispossessed the midfielder, Amay’s attempt to run through on goal was met by a challenge that referee Rahul Gupta deemed worthy of a red card, handing the Mariners a deficit in personnel.

Into the second period, Ambapardiwala brought on Shigil NS, Bekey Oram and Damaitphang Lyngdoh in a bid to put Bengaluru FC ahead. Both teams upped the tempo, making advances into the opposition box and creating chances aplenty.

Just past the hour mark, Thoi Singh came close to scoring for Bengaluru FC, when he got past Brijesh Giri before unleashing a shot from the right that was palmed off target and off the crossbar by Arsh. A few minutes later, it was the Mariners’ turn to be denied by the woodwork, as Engson Singh’s shot deflected off the crossbar at the end of a swift counter attacking move.

Bengaluru FC will play their final game in the PL NextGen Cup against the team that finishes in 4th place in Group B, one of Everton FC, RF Young Champs or Sudeva Delhi FC on Thursday.
