Bengaluru FC close out PL NextGen Cup campaign with win!

Bengaluru FC’s Reserves put on a dominant show in their final encounter of the PL NextGen Cup logging a 2-1 win against Sudeva Delhi FC at the Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. A goal in either half from Monirul Molla (34′) and Amay Morajkar (50′) was enough for the Blue Colts to overcome the side from the capital, despite Chencho Dorji’s side pulling one back through Ramesh Chhetri (70+4′) in injury time.

Earlier, Bengaluru FC head coach Kaizad Ambapardiwala made three changes to the starting eleven from Tuesday’s game against ATK Mohun Bagan, with Shighil NS, Bekey Oram and Monirul Molla replacing Fredy Chawngthansanga, Thoi Singh and Harmanpreet Singh.

The Blue Colts made a strong start with plenty of advances into the attacking third. Morajkar had the first chance to put Bengaluru FC in the lead when his shot from the edge of the box flew over the crossbar following a cross from the right by Ashik Adhikari.

A few minutes later, Felixson Fernandes sent Monirul Molla in behind the Sudeva backline, only for the forward to turn his effort straight into the hands of ‘keeper Ashish Sibi. Bengaluru FC pressed with intent and their efforts bore fruit just shy of the half-time whistle when Shighil stole the ball from Maichael Singh and played Bekey, who in turn fed Monirul in the box for the forward to slot home and put Bengaluru in the lead.

Into the second period, Bengaluru FC came close to doubling their advantage when Bekey’s attempt on goal was parried away by Sibi. But the midfielder then turned provider, teeing up Amay to score at the end of what was a delightful team move.

Sudeva scored what would prove to be a consolation in the final action of the game, when Ramesh’s shot from the edge of the box beat Sharon. Bengaluru FC’s strong performance eventually helped Ambapardiwala’s side finish their campaign on a positive note.
