Bengaluru FC & FC Bengaluru United play out thrilling 2-2 draw!

Bengaluru FC were left to rue what could have been after they let a two-goal lead slip against BDFA Super Division League leaders FC Bengaluru United in a thrilling encounter at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Thursday. Goals from Macarton Nickson (19′) and Robin Yadav (27′) helped Bengaluru FC to a 2-0 lead before second half strikes from Ronaldo Oliveira (48′) and Kinshuk Debnath (74′) saw the League leaders snatch a point.

The Blue Colts started on the front foot and after a cagey first 10 minutes, the encounter picked up pace when Bengaluru FC took a flurry of corners quarter of an hour in. Bengaluru came close to the opener in the 17th minute but Srijith pulled off a fine save to deny Macarton Nickson.

Macarton finally found the breakthrough for the Blue Colts when the ball fell kindly for him inside the box and the striker made no mistake as he buried beyond Srijith in the 19th minute. Bengaluru FC extended their lead when Thoi was brought down in the box, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

Colts skipper Robin Yadav stepped up and smashed it past the FC Bengaluru United goalkeeper near the half hour mark to double an advantage that the Blue Colts would take into the break.

FC Bengaluru United turned up in the second half, taking the game to the Blue Colts and scoring three minutes following the restart. Oliveira’s wonder strike had too much on it for Dipesh Chauhan to contain, and flew past the Bengaluru FC custodian. The Colts managed to string a few attacks together, but it was FCBU that managed to find the net on the 74 minute mark. A set-piece from substitute Ashraf Ali Mondal fell for Kinshuk, who nodded it past Chauhan.

With parity restored, Bengaluru FC pushed forward and almost found the winner in the closing stages when Thoi cut in from the left flank and curled it past the goalkeepers. His shot, however, rattled the frame and came back into play.

Bengaluru FC next face BUFC at the Bangalore Football Stadium, on Monday, December 20.
