Bengaluru FC go down 1-2 to Students Union!

Bengaluru FC ‘B’ slipped to their third straight defeat of the BDFA Super Division League campaign with a 1-1 result against Student’s Union FC at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Friday. Strikes from Mrinal Muthanna (25′) and Lindsay David Henderson (30′) gave the visitors a two-goal lead heading into the break, before Fanai Lalremtluanga (54′) pulled one back for the Blue Colts in the second period.

Bengaluru started cautiously, keeping the ball well and recycling possession, eager to create an opening. However, against the run of play, Student’s Union took the lead through Muthanna, who latched onto a pass from midfield to catch Felixson Fernandes out of position. The defender took a touch into the box, composed himself and slotted past Sharon Padattil to make it 1-0.

Only five minutes later, the visitors found themselves two to the good from a set piece, with Henderson climbing highest to glance a corner past a rooted Sharon. Despite their constant efforts to break free, van Loon’s side found themselves against a stubborn Union backline.

Into the second period, Lalremtluanga pulled one from the top drawer with a shot from distance flying into the top corner to reduce the deficit. Bengaluru pushed forward in attack on several occasions through Sudheer Kotikala, Monirul Molla and Ankith Padmanabhan, but the Union defense did well to thwart their efforts to find an equalizer.

The Blue Colts return to action in the BDFA Super Division League next week, with a clash against Bangalore Eagles FC on November 22 at 2pm.
