Bengaluru FC hit the road again as Chennaiyin FC challenge beckon!

Bengaluru FC will be keen to get back to winning ways as they take on southern rivals Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, December 13. Interim Head Coach Renedy Singh will take charge of the Blues at the Marina Arena, following the club’s decision to part ways with Englishman Simon Grayson.

“I’ve spoken to the players and we are all on the same page. We worked on our structure, our shape, and I have one more day to prepare before the game on Wednesday. We will be ready for the fight against a good Chennaiyin FC side,” said Renedy, speaking to the press on Monday.

The Blues, who made three finals last term and claimed the Durand Cup title, have had a severe dip in form this season, picking up just one win in nine games so far. Bengaluru FC sit two points below Chennaiyin FC, who have also struggled this season, with just two wins in nine games. Owen Coyle’s second stint as coach has been far from ideal, with Chennaiyin FC winless in four encounters heading into this game.

Renedy, whose last assignment as Interim Head Coach came with East Bengal SC, said his side would look to draw inspiration from the club’s supporters, many of whom stayed back after the big defeat at the Kanteerava, applauding the team in encouragement.

“It was amazing to watch the way the fans supported us until the end, despite the loss. Where on earth are you going to find such supporters? Our boys will fight for themselves, for the club, and for the fans. We will work it out. I’m sure our boys will give 100% and we’ll do well,” he added.

Bengaluru FC’s man in goal, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu too was all praise for the fans,

“I’ve only experienced this at BFC, that even after a big loss at home the fans were singing our names, chanting about the club. As a player it makes you feel a bit guilty for putting the fans through this, and yet, they overcome it just to make the players feel better. I feel so fortunate to have such supporters.”

The Blues started the game against Mumbai City FC with a front-three of Sunil Chhetri, Sivasakthi Narayanan and Curtis Main, and it remains to be seen if Renedy persists with the trio or shakes things up tactically.

Kick-off between the Blues and Chennaiyin FC is scheduled for 8pm IST and will be telecast live on JioTV, Sports18 and VH1.
