Bengaluru FC keen on encore as Delhi FC clash in Durand Cup awaits!

Bengaluru FC head coach Naushad Moosa said his squad were eager to take their winning momentum ahead when they take on Delhi FC in their second Group C encounter of the 2021 Durand Cup against Delhi FC on Saturday. The clash, set to take place at the Mohun Bagan Ground in Kolkata presents the Blues with an opportunity to inch closer to booking their place in the quarterfinals of the prestigious competition.

Buoyed by their opening day win over Kerala Blasters, when goals from Namgyal Bhutia and Leon Augustine sealed the points for the Blues, Bengaluru face Yan Law’s bottom-placed Delhi FC, who went down 1-2 to Indian Navy in their opening Group C encounter.

“We have two games left to play, and both are equally important. The win against Kerala gives these boys the motivation and confidence that we can perform on the big stage, but we have to keep our heads down and work hard if we are to progress into the knockout rounds,” said Moosa, speaking at the pre-match Press Conference.

Delhi FC, who took the lead against Indian Navy through Trinidadian striker Willis Plaza, could prove to be formidable opponents on the pitch, and Moosa maintained that his side will do well to not be complacent against a team that will be eager to bag the points.

“Delhi FC are a very good team, play a very direct brand of football and we are certain that they will come all out for the win against us. We have to respect them, regardless of their position on the table because it doesn’t reflect the quality they possess. It is also in a different setting for us, at the Mohun Bagan ground, and we have to pull together as a unit if we are to take anything away,” said Moosa.

Kickoff between Delhi FC and Bengaluru FC is scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, and the match will be streamed live on the Addatimes website and app.
