Bengaluru FC’s Under-13 boys became the club’s first Academy team to qualify for a final in the AIFF Youth League, as they came back from a goal down to beat Sudeva FC 2-1 in the semifinal of the Hero Sub-Junior League at the Navelim Ground in Goa on Monday.
After attacker Hiti Seb had put Sudeva FC up in the 6th minute, Rajan Mani’s boys fought back through Vinith Venkatesh (35+3′) who levelled the scores on the brink of half-time before Chandan Biju (40′) netted the winner minutes into the second period.
In a game of equal exchanges, Sudeva FC were presented with the first chance in the sixth minute after Arjun Dintakurti failed to clear a dangerous ball into the box. Sudeva’s Hiti Seb capitalized on the mistake and got into the clear only for Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Priyansh Dubey to bring him down in an attempt to block. Hiti stepped up himself and made no mistake to convert from the spot, giving Sudeva FC an early lead.
While the Young Blues dominated majority of the possession, they had to wait until the final minute of the first half to find the equalizer. A well worked routine from a corner kick on the left saw skipper Gautam Rajesh play a short and quick give-and-go with Arjun, before sending in a cross to find Vinith who timed his run well to head in at the far post to make it 1-1 in the third minute of injury-time.
Bengaluru FC’s comeback was complete five minutes after the restart, when they took the lead for the first time in the game through another header. A throw-in by defender Joshua Wilson near the corner flag on the right found Ishaan Raghunanda who controlled before floating in a cross to find Chandan who nodded home at the far post.
Bengaluru FC will now face Reliance Foundation Young Champs in the grand final at the Don Bosco Ground in Goa on May 22.
