In a landmark moment for the Bengaluru FC Women’s Teams, two players from the club’s U17 squad, Ruthu Sreenandan and Tanvi Nair were part of the Karnataka Squad in the opening match of the Senior Women’s National Football Championship against Gujarat, earlier this week.
Ruthu, who joined Bengaluru FC from its partner program Sporthood, represented the Bengaluru FC U15 Girls in the KSFA Women’s ‘A’ Division League last year, and expressed her delight at making the cut to represent the state.
“It’s been almost a year since I joined Bengaluru FC and the level of football here is much more than what I was used to before. Everything I’ve learned in my time here has played a massive role in my development. I’m thrilled to be selected for the State team and it’s another huge opportunity for me to prove myself,” said Ruthu.
Tanvi, meanwhile, who was scouted by the club following her exploits at the BFC Inter-School Soccer Shield, went on to captain the BFC U15 Girls’ team in the 2022 KSFA Women’s ‘A’ Division, and was also the squad’s first ever Player of the Season in 2021-22.
“It’s been a great experience so far, playing at BFC. Since playing in the ‘A’ Division, I’ve developed a lot individually. I never thought I would get selected for the state team and get to play in such a huge competition, so it’s a surreal feeling. I’m looking forward to playing in the tournament and helping the team in whatever way I can,” said 15-year-old Tanvi.
Karnataka, who won their opening match 9-1, will next face Assam on March 31st, at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
