Former Germany and Real Madrid star Bernd Schuster will be awarded the Deutscher Fußball Botschafter (German Football Ambassador) 2019 honorary award.
The charitable association Deutscher Fußball Botschafter annually awards the prize for a significant contribution to the positive image of Germany in the world, which is linked to the support of a charitable institution.
The laudatory speech for the 1980 UEFA European Championship winner, who enjoys cult status in Spain, will be given by the Spanish Ambassador H.E. Ricardo Martínez.
“Bernd Schuster enjoys great sympathy and recognition, especially in Spain, due to his appearance and his pleasant manner, whereby he has positively represented his home country for decades,” said jury chairman Rainer Holzschuh.
The Deutscher Fußball Botschafter award ceremony will take place at the Germany Federal Foreign Office in Berlin on May 15 in the presence of German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
