Borussia Dortmund extend Antonios Papadopoulos’ contract!

Borussia Dortmund have given Antonios Papadopoulos a professional contract. The defender, whose deal with BVB initially ran until the summer of 2023, has signed a new contract until June 30, 2024.

The 22-year-old all-rounder, who can be deployed both in defence and in a holding midfield role, moved to the BVB Under-23s from Halleschen FC ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. He immediately made a positive impression during pre-season and joined the senior squad at their training camp in Bad Ragaz. The Swabian native then played the full 90 minutes for Borussia Dortmund in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Throughout the course of the season, he made two Bundesliga appearances and was included in the professional squad nine times. The dual German-Greek citizen, who came through the ranks at VfR Aalen, has previously made 102 3. Liga appearances – 31 of which were for the BVB U-23s.

“I am delighted with the contract extension and am looking forward to many training sessions and games with BVB,” said Antonios Papadopoulos. Ingo Preuß, the sporting director of the U23s, explained: “I’m delighted that another of our players has showcased themselves in the U23s and received a professional contract.”
