Borussia Dortmund fire their head coach Lucien Favre!

German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, December 13 fired their head coach Lucien Favre, a day after a deserving 1-5 home loss to VfB Stuttgart at the Signal Iduna Park.

Lucien Favre and his assistant coach Manfred Stefes have been released with immediate effect.

Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the BVB Management Board, emphasizes, “We are all grateful to Lucien Favre for his excellent work in the past two and a half years, in which he and his team won two runner-up championships. As a professional and as a person, Lucien Favre is beyond any doubt.”

“We find it difficult to take this step. Nevertheless, we are of the opinion that the achievement of our goals for the season is in great danger due to the recent negative development in the current constellation and that we must therefore act,” said BVB sports director Michael Zorc.

The previous assistant coach Edin Terzic (38) will act as head coach until the end of the 2020/21 season. Terzic, whose coaching career has its origins in the BVB youth team set-up, worked in the professional field for Besiktas Istanbul and West Ham United before returning to the Strobelallee in 2018 as Favre’s assistant. The previous U-17 coach Sebastian Geppert (36) and top talent coach Otto Addo (45) will assist Terzic in working with the team.

Preparations for the Bundesliga away game on Tuesday (8.30pm) at SV Werder Bremen began on Sunday afternoon under the direction of Edin Terzic.
