Borussia Dortmund postpone trip to Israel!

Eight-time German Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund have had to decide to postpone the friendly game against five times Israel’s champions, Maccabi Netanya, which was set for May 17, 2022. This is mostly due to organizational reasons and concerns on behalf of Borussia Dortmund. The club expressed its interest in catching up on such a friendly game as soon as possible and wants to apologize to Maccabi Netanya’s fans who already bought tickets for this event.

Borussia Dortmund has confirmed to be sending a prominent delegation led by BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke to Israel during the planned period (May 15-18) to complete the planned program, such as the visit of the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem and meeting with Maccabi Netanya’s board in order to discuss the final issues of the affiliation agreement and the new date of the match.

“Beyond the town twinning of Dortmund and Netanya, both clubs combine the team colors black and yellow. So we were really looking forward to the trip to Israel and the friendly game and meeting the fans of Maccabi Netanya, Israeli citizens and excited fans of BVB. But knowing from the start that this was a very ambitious project at such short notice, we now had to accept with a heavy heart that the trip could not be realized at the present time”, commented Hans-Joachim Watzke, but at the same time emphasized: “We stand firm by the side of our many fans and friends in Israel. Postponed is not lifted – this is a promise!“
