Though NorthEast United FC will only make an official announcement on Saturday, May 14 about their new head coach, it is publicly known that Brazilian Sergio Farias would take charge of the franchise in the Indian Super League – Season 3.
After not having made the semifinals of the ISL tournament in its first two years of existence, NorthEast United FC hope that Sergio Farias with his experience in Brazil, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, China and Thailand will change that.
Sérgio Ricardo de Paiva Farias is 48 years old and has coached the Brazilian Under-20 and Under-17 national teams, where he helped develop young talent like former FIFA Player of the Year Ronaldinho Gaucho.
In Asia he had his best time with Pohang Steelers of South Korea with whom he won the K-League, the South Korean Cup and the Asian Champions League besides finishing third in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Now he comes to India to replace namesake Cesar Farias of Venezuela, who had finished fifth with NorthEast United FC last season.
