Brentford FC sign experienced central defender Ben Mee!

Brentford FC have signed experienced central defender Ben Mee on a free transfer. The 32-year-old left Burnley FC after more than a decade at the end of last season.

He completed a medical late on Thursday, July 21, and signed a two-year contract.

Ben started his career at Manchester City but has played the majority of his games at Burnley FC. He captained the Lancashire side for their past three seasons in the top flight and has played more than 200 Premier League games. He also has England youth international honours.

Brentford FC head coach Thomas Frank said, “I am very happy that we have signed Ben. He will add a lot of quality and experience to the squad. He had six good years for Burnley in the Premier League. I really love his defensive mindset; he knows how to defend the box, he knows how to block a shot and he knows how to win duels.”

“He will bring leadership and communication to the team, which is very attractive. He has a very good left foot and will be very good for us on set-pieces in both boxes. I am looking forward to adding him to the squad.”

Ben came through the Academy at Manchester City, having been born and raised locally, and played for England at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level.

He made one EFL Cup appearance for City and had a loan spell at Leicester City in 2011. He then joined Burnley FC, initially on loan, and his career started to develop.

Ben spent the 2011/12 campaign on loan at Burnley FC and completed a permanent move in the summer of 2012.

Ben Mee helped them win promotion to the Premier League twice – in 2014 and 2016 – and was a regular for them in the top tier. Ben leaves Burnley FC having played more than 350 league games for them and approaching 400 in all competitions.
