Bundesliga: Peter Stöger replaces Peter Bosz at Borussia Dortmund!

Struggling Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have today ended the contract of head coach Peter Bosz and made a surprise appointed of Peter Stöger as his successor until the end of the 2017/18 season.

BVB Chief Executive Officer Hans Joachim Watzke cited the club’s current sporting failures over the last couple of months as the reason behind the decision.

Dutchman Peter Bosz had joined Dortmund from Eredivisie side Ajax Amsterdam with whom he had reached the UEFA Europa League final last season and had build a young and talented squad.

At the start, Peter Bosz and BVB seemed to work in harmony as the club had a sensational start to the Bundesliga campaign with 19 points from seven matches, top of the table but the ultra-attacking style of Bosz was already showing its weaknesses with the defensive set-up of the club.

Suddenly things took a turn for the bad and over the last couple of months, Dortmund have stopped winning and were regularly losing matches, which continued until yesterday in the 1-2 loss to Werder Bremen, which forced the club management to finally act as things were moving from bad to worse.

“Last night, in a conversation with Peter Bosz, we decided that we would release him with immediate effect,” said Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Bosz’s replacement is 51 year old Austrian Peter Stöger, who until last week coached 1.FC Köln (Cologne), but after four successful seasons in which Stöger took them from the Bundesliga 2 into the UEFA Europa League, this season Cologne had only gathered three points from 14 matches, which led to Stöger and Cologne deciding to part ways last weekend.

Now Stöger takes over in Dortmund, who had a squad which in Germany should finish amongst the positions second to fourth, a UEFA Champions League spot.
