German Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98 seems to have a prominent fan in former US President Barack Obama who follows them on Twitter. The Hessian radio reported that the “Lilies” as Darmstadt are known are the only football team from Europe’s top leagues, followed by Obama on Twitter.
“For us this is of course a very great honour,” said Darmstadt’s US international player Terrence Boyd in a video message to Obama. “Since they have a little more time, we would like to invite you to a game of the lilies at the Böllenfalltor – see you at the Bölle!” Afterwards, Boyd holds up an ennobled jersey with the name “Obama” and the number “98” made by the clubs kit partner JAKO!
