CAF Disciplinary Board outcome revealed!

The CAF Disciplinary Board met to deliberate on a number of matters. Below is the summary:

Al Ahly AC: Misconduct

The CAF Disciplinary Board charged Al Ahly SC with misconduct after water bottles were thrown on the field during their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League fixture against Al Hilal of Sudan on April 1, 2023.

After evidence was led and both parties presented their case, the Disciplinary Board decided:

  1. Impose a fine of USD 20 000 on Al Ahly SC for throwing objects
  2. Impose a fine of USD 100 000 on Al Ahly SC for the lack of order and security

Complaint by Nigeria Football Federation against Alseny Soumah

On March 29, 2023, CAF received a complaint from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2023 Qualifier match between the Nigeria U23 and the Guinean U23 against player Alseny Soumah from Guinea on alleged falsification of documentation of the player.

After reviewing all documents and listening to the complaint, the CAF Disciplinary Board dismissed Nigeria’s complaint as there was no irregularity regarding the participation of the player.

Al Hilal:

The CAF Disciplinary Board charged Al Hilal with misconduct after water bottles were thrown on the field and the Club officials and players behaved in an inappropriate matter during their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League fixture against Al Ahly of Egypt on April 1, 2023.

After evidence was led and both parties presented their case, the Disciplinary Board decided:

  • To Fine Al Hilal Club USD 50 000 for the throwing of objects and the inappropriate behavior of its players and officials.

Rwanda FA and Kevin Muhire 

CAF opened an investigation on whether Rwanda player, Kevin Muhire was eligible to play in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023 Cote d’Ivoire qualifier match between Rwanda and Benin.

The Disciplinary Board found that the aforementioned player was ineligible after having been cautioned in previous matches. Accordingly, the Disciplinary Board found the Rwanda FA guilty and declared the match a forfeit, with a 3-0 score line in favour of Benin.

Benin Football Federation

Benin Football Federation was charged following an incident that took place ahead of their TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023 Cote d’Ivoire qualifier match against Rwanda after the latter complained that during their training session, Benin officials interrupted their official training session.

After studying images and footage, of the incident, the CAF Disciplinary Board decided to impose a fine of USD 10,000 on Benin Football Federation for failing to comply with the provisions of article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

Gabon Football Federation 

CAF received a complaint from Cameroon Football Association against Gabon Football Federation, who lodged a complaint about the documentation (age) of Gabonese player Floriss Djave during their qualifier match for the TotalEnergies U23 African Cup of Nations on March 25, 2023.

The Disciplinary Board investigated the matter and found Gabon Football Federation guilty and gave the following ruling.

  • To eliminate the Gabonese team from the current edition of the TotalEnergies U23 African Cup of Nations
  • To suspend the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) from participating in the next edition of the TotalEnergies U23 African Cup of Nations

To submit the case to the Organising Committee of the TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations to replace the Gabon’s U23 national team in the competition, in accordance with the regulations of the competition.
