CAF focuses on sharing experience at Interpol’s Workshop on Major Event Safety and Security in Doha, Qatar!

Through its Department of Safety and Security, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) is participating in Interpol’s Workshop on Major Event Safety and Security currently taking place in Qatar’s Capital, Doha.

The event, which kicked off on Monday, April 29 runs until May 1, 2024 and sees CAF amongst representatives of Interpol, Project Stadia, UNOCT, and countries such as Qatar, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco.

Attended by CAF Head of Safety and Security Dr Christian Emeruwa, the workshop introduced Stadia’s capabilities and support for Major Events’ Safety and Security. It specifically focused on the recently concluded TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023 and AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

Threat and risk assessments were conducted, and safety and security conclusions were developed for each event. In addition, the workshop will cover key topics such as crowd management plans, command and coordination, public and private security as well as protective security.

Dr Emeruwa shared an overview of the security measures implemented so far, shedding light on the arduous challenges encountered in his missions to ensure safety and security at CAF events. This candid discussion sparked an open dialogue on all aspects of major event safety and security, underscoring the importance of collective action in overcoming these challenges.

The discussions also included the preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

The workshop is a pivotal platform for CAF and other stakeholders to unite, exchange knowledge, and forge robust strategies for upholding safety and security at major events.
