CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe visited Malawi today to participate in the kick-off event of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (“COSAFA”) Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
Dr Motsepe met Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, Deputy Minister of Education, Madalisto Kambauwa-Wirima and Football Association of Malawi President, Walter Nyamilandu-Manda. He was joined by COSAFA President, Artur de Almeida e Silva and CAF General Secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba.
President Motsepe said: “I’m excited to be in Malawi and I express my gratitude to the President of Malawi, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, the Sports Minister and the people of Malawi for hosting the COSAFA Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF African Schools Football Championship. The African Schools Football Championship is aimed at improving the quality and competitiveness of African football by investing in football at school’s level. School’s football will make a significant contribution to making African football amongst the best in the World.”
