CAF Safety & Security Conference focuses on CAF Officers’ Development & Conduct!

The recent CAF Safety and Security Conference, a pivotal event in the operations of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), united CAF Safety and Security Officers from all 54 Member Associations.

The conference, which took place earlier on Wednesday, 15 May, focused on the development and conduct of the Safety and Security officers.

The event featured key speakers such as CAF Head of Safety and Security Dr Christian Emeruwa and Mr Massimiliano Montari, CEO of the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS). FIFA was also represented at the conference.

The main topics of discussion included the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2023, the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative, Operational Standards for CAF Safety and Security Officers, Performance Review, Professional Capacity Development Programmes, Handbook and Code of Conduct, and the Challenges faced by CAF Safety and Security Officers.

Dr Emeruwa said: “The CAF Safety and Security Officers are an integral pool of experts that support the delivery of safety and security operations across all CAF Tournaments, Competitions and Events. It is therefore always important to ensure they receive up-to-date information about their expected roles. We are happy to have organized this sort of conference because it helps to evaluate the operational standards and our expectations as well as get feedback from our team of experts on areas that we need to improve.”

The conference is part of the Safety and Security Department’s strategic plan to engage regularly with all CAF safety and security officers.

The discussions covered elements critical to the sustainable development of CAF standard operating procedures and had practical implications for safety and security assessments.
