On April 26, Atletico Madrid celebrate their 120th anniversary and on the occasion of this birthday the club are launching a kit inspired by the one used in the first match of the clubs history, blue and white and with the original club badge on the chest. Atletico Madrid will wear this new kit this Wednesday in the LaLiga game against Real Mallorca, just as the first Atleti players did in their historic debut.
Atletico Madrid’s colours, red and white, would arrive to the clubs kit in 1911, date until which Atletico Madrid used the blue and white that they will defend again this Wednesday.
Founded on April 26, 1903 as a branch of Athletic Club, the club was founded by a group of Basque students living in Madrid and members of the Biscayan team, who at that time also wore blue and white. Likewise, the first crest – valid until 1917 – was made up of a belt surrounding a football on which the initials of Athletic Club could be read intertwined.
Many other surprises await you this Wednesday at the Cívitas Metropolitano to celebrate Atletico Madrid’s 120th anniversary.
